Lest We Forget: Today is the first day of your European tour with While She Sleeps. What are your expectations towards the audience?

Liam: I don’t know, this is our first day of this tour. I’m excited. We’ve played at this venue a bunch of times with Comeback Kid and Betraying The Martyrs. This venue is awesome. I feel like the show is gonna be good, just based on the fact that it’s in a cool venue that people like to go to.

Lest We Forget: Between the years 2005 and 2010 you’ve released at least one ep or album every year. But since 2010 you just released two new albums. Do you have times when you’re very productive and times you’re less?

Liam: I think this time we wanted to take some time off the road. We’ve always kept releasing records, but we’re all very excited to take a little bit time at home, just spend a bit more time on the record too. Spending more time writing it, like if we spend six month writing a record it would probably sound very good. But also we like to hang out more with our girlfriends or wifes, so for both reasons we took some time off. I’m really stoked on how the record turned our. Maybe we should do it all the time [laughs].

Lest We Forget: You’ll be touring more than a month, so you’ll have to see the others every day. Do they have any bad habits that bother you?

Liam: I think now we know everbodys habits so well, we know how to get along with it, because we’ve been a band for ten years now. You know who snores, it’s like everybody is hanging out long enough,so we all know how to deal.

Lest We Forget: The band exist since 2004 and in that time you’ve got a couple of albums and eps out. Which cover-(artwork) do you like the most?

Liam: I love this new one. I think it’s maybe my favorite. I think all of them are great and I like all of them for their own reasons but I love how this one stands up. I can be across the room and still read it.

Lest We Forget: What is the best merch you’ve ever seen?

Liam: I love the Jane Doe Converge shirt. It’s a classic, it’s still there, even if it’s like ten years old.

Lest We Forget: When did you first learn to play an instrument and who teached you?

Liam: I’ve never had lessons or anything. I started playing drums when I was 14 and I just taught myself. My dad played drums and so he was like you should learn just by playing along with this records -he gave me a Van Morrison cassette. And I have a cousin who is a very good drummer and he was like just until you get a point where you get stuck, just do anything by yourself.

Lest We Forget: About which theme or topic could you simplest write new songs?

Liam: I especially like personal themes, when you have a reach throw it. Personally for me, I just like to write about very personal things. Whatever is like really on my mind, whether you hate or love someone. And also like the song itself makes you think of.

Lest We Forget: What’s the worst thing or injury happened at one of your concerts?

Liam: I got booted in my face by someone stage diving. I broke my nose. I’ve got kicked in the face, had a totally broken nose, two black eyes and everything. And we had to fly the next day to Australia. I looked so beat up. But we finished the show, it was back in 2009. So we finished our big headlining show in the UK, stayed up all night long, hanging out. The next day we had to fly to Australia and everybody was hungover and I got my nose broken.

Or I also smashed myself in the face. I was swinging the micro and it got caught, so the cord shortened and swiped back in my face. That was in 2008.

Lest We Forget: What’s your best-working pick up line?

Liam: I don’t know, I’ve had a girlfriend forever.

Lest We Forget: And how have you picked up her?

Liam: I’ve just known her forever, she’s my best friend. So I guess I just told her that I love her. That’s a good pick up line, just tell them you love them. And go from there, eight years later you used to be in a relationship and it’ll work out.

Liam: It was an indie rock show when I was eleven years old. It was a Canadian band and it was at a bar. I got let in because people think I was way too young to obviously be at a bar, so nobody would serve me. So I certainly could go to shows all the time because I can get in the bars. When I was eleven I probably looked like six years old, so people thought I’m someones little brother.

-merchandise I’ve bought

Liam: I remember one of the first shirts I bought. It was a Nine Inch Nails shirt. It was like 1990 and in the Record Store where I’ve used to go to they’ve got a Nine Inch Nails Shirt which I found pretty cool. Later I realized I like them but at this point I didn’t knew them.

Liam: It was the warped tour, I guess it was in 1996.

-time in Germany

Liam: Was in 2006, on tour with Alexisonfire. It was fucking amazing. It was our first tour ever. We’ve played at hamburg at club Molotow and it was fucking insane. We played some shows in a fucking castle. We’ve been to the us with Alexis and we’re like America is cool and when we get to Europe, all these shows were insane and we were like this is the fucking best.
